Q: Why do you only sell Nordic Track Ski Machines from pre 1997? |
A: After 1997 the original Nordic Track Co. was liquidated and the Nordic Track name was purchased by Icon Fitness. All production post 97 of Nordic Track Ski Machines was moved overseas to China. These Chinese machines are not the same in terms of quality, frame integrity, parts quality, wood ski material, tolerances, drive rollers, ect. |
Q: What is so special about the Original Nordic Track Ski Machines? |
A: The original Nordic Track ski machines were designed to last and perform for years of service and seem to be indestructible with normal use. Of course parts wear out but the quality materials and design in the original machines was supurb, really exceeding expectations and establishing the Nordic Track name as a Mark of Quality . |
Q: What are the similarities in the different models? |
A: For the most part, all the wood machines (Pro, Achiever, Sequoia, Excel, Challenger, Medalist, 505, 20th Anniversary) share the same fundamental parts that make an Original Nordic Track what it is. This includes the flywheel, arm reel, wiring, most framing, nuts and bolts, drag strap, and spacers. |
Q: What are the differences in the different models? |
A: Most differences relate to the relative ease of resistance control , wheels for moving, convenience faetures, belly pad, resistance read out, and some framing additions in the Achiever and Medalist. |
Q: How do I maintain my drag strap? |
A: You can wipe it off manuaklly from time to time to remove any buildup of dust or you can take it off and launder it in a regular washing machine. |
Q: Should I oil the machine? |
A: Yes, but NOT the drive rollers - they are sealed bearings. You can oil the 4 free rollers, the leather under the arm reel, and the flat ring shaped bearing under the spring on the reel. |
Q: Are the computer monitors interchangeable? |
A: For the most part they are interchangeable on the Original machines. The mounting hardware does change from different machines as do the features (pulse, performance index, baseline exercise programming, individual customizing for multiple users) but the plug in cords and basic functions are similar. |
Q: How important is the adjustable incline feature on the Pro , Achiever and Medalist ? |
A: To some who may get bored or challenged easily this can be very important. Also, this feature allows some room for future challenge as you increase skill and stamina. But for many the adjustable incline is not important because the existing aerobic level of workout is satisfactory and substantial compared to almost any other exercise equipment. |
Q: Can anyone use a Nordic Track Ski Machine? |
A: I believe almost anyone can use a Nordic Track machine but they do require more than the usual level of coordination and skill or practice to get started. For beginners I think the skiing action should be practiced first using your hand hold bars until comfortable. You can add the arm reel workout at any time. |
Q: How do you ship a Nordic Track? |
A: I ship these in double wall boxes that are custom built for size so the package holds together and has minimal movement. Each vulnerable component is wrapped or double wrapped. Special packing fills in the empty space to isolate movement and provide cushion. The box ends have double double wall plus a third closure wall and extra cushioning. |
Q: How do I test for a worn or slipping drive roller bearing? |
A: Remove ski and grip one of the drive rollers. Rotate the drive roller counter clockwise back and forth (one way drive) so that the flywheel is spinning. Loosen the tension to allow it to spin easily. Now, grab the flywheel and at the same time try to spin the drive roller against your resistance - the drive roller should not slip at all. |
Q: My drive rollers test OK but I still feel ski slippage-now what? |
A: Take a cloth or paper towel and wipe any wax or polish or oil fmom the bottom of the ski to make sure that is not the cause. The inner sides of the machine should have a slight buildup of wax that can get on the bottom of the ski. After cleaning thoroughly- test for slippage. |
Q: My drive roller squeeks, what should I do. |
A: Sometimes with non use and age and buildup of dirt the washers and drive rollers can become so tight they squeek loudly. Either loosen the whole assembly on the axle, clean, and retighten or spray a directed stream of silicone between the washers and rollers.
Q: My arm reel cords are tangled or crossing or messed up, how do I fix this?
A: Remove grips and completely unravel both cords so they are fully extended and hanging loose out of each end of the pulley assembly. Wind the top or left cord until there is no more cord to wind but leave room for reattachment of grip. Now pull the cord until both are even. The other side winds automatically and you are done. Reattach grips.
Q: How much space does a Nordic Track require to set up including ski room when exercising ? What size is it when folded up ?
A : The total maximum height for a Nordic Track Sequoia, Challenger, or Excel is 67 inches including arm reel. The overall length including arm reel and rear ski overhang required for exercise is 82 inches. The Pro and Achiever models can be a few inches higher because of thier adlustable legs. The folded size is 48 x 13 x 19 inches. |
